Diverse Communities, Diverse Crops - Community meal in Ipswich

This autumn we shared an end of project celebration meal with the wonderful communities and farmers who participated in our research and community project, Diverse Communities, Diverse Crops.  The community were welcomed by Holly Lodge Church in Ipswich, and their heritage ranged from Kurdistan, Afghanistan, Kosovo, Thailand, Lesotho, the Philippines and  Mauritius. Our local farmers watched in delight as their produce was turned into delicious traditional dishes such as dolma, burek and lamb pulao. We shared photos and discussed what we had learned whilst visiting farms over the summer.

We all agreed that spending time with each other was a valuable and heart-warming experience, whilst also gaining knowledge and understanding about culturally appropriate food crops.

Thanks again to our funders, Essex & Suffolk Coast & Heaths National Landscape, plus Natural Habitat, Busi Madikazi, Oak Tree Farm, Hill House Farm and Suffolk Refugee Support for your help and generosity.

We are now looking into how this project might develop further to increase our learning and create opportunities around diverse crops.
