Introduction to Seed Saving - Part 2

Join Gaina from Barleybird, and Kate, our local grower and seed saving expert, for informative presentations, discussions and practical activities. Some experience is preferred: either you have attended our Part 1 workshop, or you have some experience of saving seed. This workshop will focus on biennial vegetable crops such as beets, carrots and cabbages.

Lunch will be provided at Hodmedod’s Bean Store, so workshop participants can also visit the Seed and Plant Swap.

 
  • The life-cycle of a plant, from ‘seed to seed’

  • The stages of biennial seed saving including selecting, lifting and storing

  • The process of vernalisation and replanting

  • The needs of various seed plants including supports, protection and pollination

  • Seed harvesting techniques
